Hi everybody!!! I'm back again - ready to get on my soapbox.
Well, I had another body part give me fits. Got it fixed and rearin' to go . . . somewhere. Being healthy can be dangerous. When you have been healthy for a long period of time and suddenly that changes, you don't recognize the change or you don't know what to do. That is what has happened to me in the last 5 weeks. Anyway, I hope all that is behind me. Maybe it was just a warning for me to slow down. I had been doing a bit of running here and there - soooooooo okay I get the message.
Our photography club met on Tuesday, October 11. It was a good meeting. The first time we met there were 10 people in attendance. This time we had 14 people show up. I invited a gal I know to give up a program in digital manipulation. I think everyone enjoyed that. We have a really diverse group - beginner-beginner, er,er,er to semi professional. It's been suggested that we concentrate on bringing the beginners up to advanced beginner as some of the folks just didn't get what was being said. Sooooooo next time we will talk a little about the Rule of 3rds, ISO, and Aperature. We have a field trip on Saturday. So far we have 4 people who plan to go and one other possible. We will go to the Old Oaks Ranch. This is a fascinating place. They have a store there with crafts to do and people who give instruction. Also, all kinds of colorful yarns for knitting or whatever. Also, for us photogs, they have a sculpture garden. We can practice outdoor still life and depth of field and some scenic. They also have a grotto with a waterfall. A place to make lots of good photographs.
This past week I have noticed a lot of elderly people who are trying to walk without the aid of a cane. I wonder what is going on. Do they actually think that if they walk bent over they still appear younger without the use of a cane? A cane is a wonderful tool. It gives you balance and helps you to walk straighter. If you walk straighter you will have less backaches and less trips to the doctor for pain pills. It reminds me of people who won't wear glasses because they think it makes them appear older - so they look at you with squinty eyes or carry around those reading classes which they wear on the edge of their nose that don't really help the underlying problem. I don't understand this attitude and I guess I never will. I started wearing glasses when I was about 47. I was flying airplanes at the time and glasses really helped when I was taking notes given to me by the AC controllers as I was approaching the outer limits of controlled airports. Without them (the glasses) I probably would have crashed and burned. I started out with bi-focals and later progressed to tri-focals. All I had to do was move my eyes, not my head!! I started using a cane which was actually a cow prod in 1987. My brother and I went on a hike in Big Bend National Park, to an area called the window. We left in the middle of the afternoon and consequently started back on the 3mile uphill return a little late. Going down had been easy but coming back was a strain - all uphill. I was 55 and he was 61. Fortunately, he was carrying the cattle prod. When we returned to the basin, I was convinced to never go anywhere ever again without carrying a cattle prod. It is a sturdy stick with a big hook at the end. Comes in handy when you need extra leverage going uphill. You can hook that hook around a tree and pull yourself up. Just having the stick can be a benefit when you are out in shrub country or snake country.
Well, I've other work to do today so best get on with it. Make someone happy - give them a hug.
